One of the requirements that Cigna has when making an out of network doctor is the the patient to submit the Doctor's Tax Employer Identification Number (EIN) or the Doctor's Social Security Number. Cigna claims that fraud is prevalent and the only way that they can verify that service is real before processing the claim is for the patient to provide one of these two numbers.
My doctor refused the request. I can't blame him. This is sensitive information. So after seeing a specialist within 3 minutes of my home/work, I am out $345.
My other choice is to see one of their participating doctors 20 minutes away or one 45 minutes away. Someone who does not know my family history or me.
To say this is disheartening is an understatement. One more reason Cigna is disappointing.
